The 25th anniversary of Hidroerg, in 2014, not only represents a date to celebrate, but it also constitutes an opportunity to weigh the past and to launch the future. A moment to devise an outlook, both in terms of a development strategy and in the selection of priority areas and projects.

With the usual discretion and keeping up with the targets set for its expansion, the company will continue to grow gradually within the subsector of the renewable energies, with the installation of new energy production facilities and with the provision of services inside and outside the Group, either related to the multiple evaluation and to the promotion of new energy projects, or to the operation of the power plants already built. The implementation of new energy projects available in the company’s portfolio will continue, either at Hidroerg, or indirectly through its affiliated companies, after evaluation of the most appropriate alternative.

The management of the seven hydropower plants, all located in the central and northern regions of mainland Portugal, is undertaken by Hidroerg. The operation and maintenance of those facilities are performed under the company’s direct responsibility, whereas as wind farms are concerned O&M contracts were signed with third parties - partners in the market and in fact the equipment installers.

Despite the importance of following up and managing the power plants already installed, optimizing their operation and securing their preventive and corrective maintenance, the company believes that significant human resources should remain allocated to the development of new business, either in its traditional areas or in new areas.

In a word, the company’s strategy is to preserve and capitalize the built assets and to prepare the foundation of future assets. For that purpose, the company seeks to diversify its activity, both in terms of energy production projects from natural resources other than water and wind, as in the provision of services to third parties, both nationwide and internationally.

In any case, Hidroerg has the actual conditions to proceed in the near future with the sustainable expansion that has characterized its business evolution, by keeping with the soundness, quality and safety standards the company has always adopted for the conception and execution of new projects, which in turn helped to shape its image in the Portuguese energy production market.
