Hidroerg – Projectos Energéticos, Lda, incorporated in March 1989, is headquartered in Lisbon, in the Alcântara district. Together with its affiliated companies, it is the owner of ten renewables-based energy production facilities - seven hydropower schemes and three wind farms -, all located in mainland Portugal.
With a total capacity of 37 MW and a mean annual energy production of 100 GWh, the Group provides the equivalent to the energy consumed by nearly 80 thousand inhabitants. Hidroerg and the affiliated companies, on average, generate revenues on the global amount of around 10 million euro, and their net assets reach ca. 45 million euro, in a significant context of economic health and financial balance.
The corporate core of Hidroerg comprises a technical staff specialized in areas such as planning, hydrology and execution of infrastructures and electrical and mechanical installations, which is directly involved in the day-to-day management of the company. It also includes firms with a non-resident shareholder basis, with relevant connections to their home country’s energy sector.
The economic Group includes three companies incorporated under the Portuguese law, in which Hidroerg holds a direct equity share. In one of those companies our corporate partner is an energy utility, specifically the German company Innogy (RWE Group).

Hidroerg’s activity dates back to the year following the publication of Decree-Law nr. 189/88. The starting-up of the company was driven, precisely, by the opportunity for private companies to build small hydropower schemes, after obtaining the necessary establishment permit and connection to the national electricity grid, as well as the concession for the use of the water resources and public domain.
Under the joint jurisdiction of the Energy and the Environment authorities, the activity developed by Hidroerg is legally recognized as of public interest, reconciling private economic interests with the use of endogenous and renewable resources, with due regard for the surrounding ecosystems and region.
The company and the sector to which it belongs, as energy producers from renewable resources, contribute actively to develop the inner regions of Portugal, through the generation of income from land occupation and creation of employment in the villages near the schemes, the construction and improvement of access roads surrounding the power plants, and even through the injection of capital in the local economies.
The company and the sector also contribute to the development of the country’s industry, providing income generation in sectors as diverse as consultancy, civil construction works, metalworking, manufacture and installation of electrical components (for automation and control) and of energy production equipment.
In addition to these regional and sectoral advantages, national benefits deriving from this activity should also be pointed out, with special emphasis on the reduction of the country’s external energy dependence, through lower fossil fuel imports, and on the reduction of greenhouse-gas emissions.
